Bac Ninh, the land of the Ly Dynasty, the cradle of Vietnamese Buddhism…

Bac Ninh in general and the two districts of Tien Du and Thuan Thanh in particular are considered the birthplace of Vietnamese Buddhism with famous pagodas such as But Thap Pagoda, Phat Tich Pagoda, Dau Pagoda and especially a relic that is the only one in the world. The best place in the world is the place to worship Vietnamese ancestors: Kinh Duong Vuong Mausoleum and Temple.

Therefore, Kinh Duong Vuong Bridge is required to be designed with unique architectural highlights, ensuring harmony in the landscape of the area. The plan selected for construction is the plan that won first prize in the architectural competition for Phat Tich Bridge – Dai Dong Thanh project organized by Bac Ninh Department of Transport in 2016, is the “Dual Dragon flanking the sun” plan designed by the team of Architect Truong Van Tho – VTCO Investment Company Limited and directly conducting survey and technical design for the project.

In the design plan, the team of architects presents three architectural ideas in one structure, each image imbued with Kinh Bac culture. The bridge is like a silk strip spanning the Duong River, the spans of the bridge when reflected in the river create the image of the typical Quai Thao hat of the Quan Ho people.
The main idea is “Two dragons flanking the sun” (two dragons flanking the sun) suitable for the land of outstanding spiritual people, combining the sacred aura of heaven and earth, where the temple of Kinh Duong Vuong, the Vietnamese Patriarch, is located on the south side of the Duong River and on the north bank there is Phat Tich Pagoda, one of the first Buddhist works in Vietnam.

The bridge has a total length of more than 1,500m, the starting point is in Canh Hung commune, Tien Du district, the ending point is in Dai Dong Thanh commune, Thuan Thanh district. The bridge is designed on a permanent scale with reinforced concrete, combining steel arches and a cable system hanging on the bridge deck. The cross-section of the bridge is 22.5m wide, from the water surface to the top of the steel arch of the bridge with a height of up to 87m and is the highest steel arch bridge in Vietnam to date. At both ends of the bridge, there are pedestrian walkways leading up to the bridge, connecting conveniently with the planning road of the Kinh Duong Vuong Mausoleum relic area and the path on the Canh Hung dike side. The architectural shape of the bridge has 5 load-bearing arches bearing the image of a pair of dragons from the Ly Dynasty. The dragon’s body is rolled in a soft, S-shaped shape, gracefully playing on the water waves.

At the 13th session, the 19th People’s Council of Bac Ninh province, term 2021-2026, agreed to name the bridge over the Duong river connecting Tien Du district with Thuan Thanh town as “Kinh Duong Vuong” bridge with the consensus High approval from the attending delegates.

After more than 5 years of construction, on the morning of October 11, Bac Ninh province held a ceremony to open Kinh Duong Vuong bridge in Canh Hung commune, Tien Du district. Comrades Tran Luu Quang, Member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Prime Minister; Nguyen Anh Tuan, Member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Bac Ninh Provincial Party Committee attended and cut the ribbon to inaugurate the bridge. This is considered the highest steel arch bridge in Vietnam with a distance from the bridge deck to the top of the arch of 40-67 m.
